Laura Kucera, D.V.M.
Dr. Laura Kucera is from Washington, North Carolina. Dr. Kucera attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Kucera has practiced veterinary medicine at LaCroix Veterinary Hospital in Wilmington, NC and Banfield Animal Hospital of Morehead City. She joined the professional staff of the Havelock Animal Hospital in 2010. Dr. Kucera’s professional interests include all aspects of veterinary medicine.
Given a day off, Dr. Kucera enjoys outdoor activities including: surfing, kayaking, golfing, hiking, skateboarding, etc. She spends the majority of her free time with her husband Scott, her two boys and her canine family, Summer (Australian Cattle Dog mixed breed) and Bingo (Cairn Terrier mixed breed).
Feby Cash Truskey, D.V.M.
Dr. Feby “Libby” Cash Truskey is a native of Wilson, North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina. After completing her fourth clinical year at North Carolina State University, she earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine with highest honors from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Before coming to the Havelock Animal Hospital, Dr. Truskey practiced at Arendell Animal Hospital in Morehead City, at Animal Care Center of New Bern, and at the Emergency Pet Hospital in Havelock.
Dr. Truskey’s professional interests include advanced soft tissue surgery techniques, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, and chronic disease management for senior pets.
Dr. Truskey and her husband, Marcus, have two children, and pets – 2 dogs: Reggie and Maverick, and 3 cats: Engine, Gracie, and O.C. She enjoys gardening, cooking, exercising, and spending time with her family at the beach.
Larry Paul, Jr. D.V.M.
Dr. Larry Paul was raised in the Adams Creek area of Craven County. He went to school in eastern Carteret County before attending college at North Carolina State University where he earned a B.S. degree, with high honors, in Zoology. He attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University where he graduated, with honors.
Dr. Paul returned to eastern North Carolina in the early 1980’s where he became an owner of Havelock Animal Hospital. Dr. Paul’s professional interests include internal medicine, surgery, dermatology and the management of diabetes.
He and his wife Nancy have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Over the years they have had many wonderful horses and hounds, cats and cows, ducks and dogs on their farm. Currently they are sharing their home with an exuberant Airedale Terrier named “Ghillie”.
Lisa Krause Zapf, D.V.M.
Dr. Lisa Krause Zapf grew up in Amherst, NY. She attended the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Biology. Dr. Krause Zapf received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Krause Zapf completed a rotating internship at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT before moving to eastern North Carolina. She worked in emergency medicine for 6 years at The Emergency Pet Hospital of Craven-Carteret, and as a relief veterinarian throughout eastern North Carolina. Her veterinary interests include oncology, geriatric care, and emergency medicine.
Dr. Krause Zapf enjoys reading, fishing, and hiking with her husband, Dan, and French bulldog, Fontaine. Her favorite places to visit include Alaska and her husband’s family cottage in upstate NY.
